Chances aplenty!

Team Goat 2 Real Ale 2
(Dwayne, JinChuen)

The scoreline definitely does not reflect what happened in the game. Both sets of team have chances aplenty but all fail to find the net due thanks to their own keeper. Excellent saves from junguang and a few from their keeper keep the scoreline low and respectable for both teams.

We started the game with only 10men and it is always a bad sign when you are playing a fully charge Real Ale who is seeking for their win after consecutive loses. We were pushed and pushed but Junguang kept us out with many outrageous saves than i could only be in awe. I'm only pleased that he could join us on that day itself. But they did find a goal with a looping header at the back post which lop over all the players and back into the net. Our new recruit Dwayne got us a penalty but kiong hit the woodwork.

Down but not out, we continued to push at the start of the half and soon we got our reward with dwayne twisting and turning in the penalty box, he set himself up for a easy goal as he slot pass the keeper. 1-1

A mis-controlled header by JC found the ball being diverted towards andy johnson look-alike and a perfectly executed volley found its way into the net leaving me with no chance. Oh and junguang got injured and was sub out during the 60th min?

We than started to push and counter. But to no avail. Another sub was needed to change the game when i swap lennard for Jackson. Jackson pulled the strings in this crucial attack as he pass the ball to the far left to find JC who was left empty and a vicious shot toward to the far corner of the goal left the keeper haplessly standing on his back foot. 2-2

The game was well-played throughout with both sets of players sharing jokes and every end. Good to see in the social football scene and i do hope for us that it will continue every weekend. =)

Motm: JunGuang
His outrageous saves definitely kept us in the game throughout. To be honest with his calibre i don't see why he can't play for any Sleague team. =) Hope to see you again soon!

Formations and Strategies don't win games. Players do...

Team Goat 2 Big Belly 5
(Jackson, Kiong)

Not in the mood to post an entry. 4 defensive errors cost us dearly. A chance to fight back at 2nd half but didnt grab hold of the chances.

It happened again....

Team Goat 1 Hospitality 2
(WeiMing)

A last minute goal ended Goat's hope of getting a draw in a feisty encounter. Both team were set up to attack and we did.

We started with 10man as 4 of our players were late. An a goal came early for Hospitality before we could introduce RenJie into the game. (The guy who took a cab which cost $24 to the game) A corner was not properly defended led to the goal. But from that goal I have learnt something and that is never put 2 centre backs at the front post when they are so good at marking and heading the ball!

We continued to push and we had a few decent chances to get a goal but their keeper were up to the mark.

2nd half, we switched things a little by pushing up the defence line in order to compact the midfield and the strikers. Things did go well as we were constantly getting the ball and creating chances. Sadly none came until the last 5minutes when we were awarded a corner which changed everything. Capitalising on them for not dealing with the ball well, Weiming was able to put a stinging shot towards goal and past the keeper. 1-1!

But sadly the draw was not ours to take as they got the winner. Both team were desperate to get the late winner, and a poor clearance of the ball, gave the opp who was standing outside the box to line up a shot which was deflected in. Unlucky to have conceded the goal but it happens. No blame on anybody and we have really give it our all to win the game and to push for the equaliser.

What I want to say is to look at the positives for this game and as well as the mistakes we have committed and to learn from it.

We were pretty bad in the 1st half but 2nd half was definitely an improvement. We are stringing passes and creating chances. There are 2 so called sayings that I took away today and they were,

1. From Kiong
We can't possibility keep attacking with the ball and playing a fast game. Sometime we need to hold the ball and dribble here and there.

Agree and Disagree. Agree that we should not always CHIONG and attack. Disagree that we should dribble here and there. We should always pass the ball and make the ball go towards a better place (no.2 saying), to create opening and chances. When we hold the ball too long and not pass we will only be closed down and thus ended up losing the ball! Which is very bad. So what i'm saying is, if you can't do anything to the ball pass it away. Pass it to the back, spread to your near by team-mates! They might be able to do something which you can't do from your area. All in all trust your team-mates and stroke the ball around thus everyone will get a feel of the ball and the rhythm of the game.

2. From YongJie
Bring the ball to a better place.

This has only been done by 1 person so far, from my view today. If there is anyone else sorry i apologise for not seeing it. Well and that person is Yangshan. He is able to bring the ball out from danger or spread it to a better person/place where the ball has much more potential to be a treat for the opp. What he did was to bring the ball out and either spreads it to the wing or to the back where the team will be given time to re-group. This is what should be done instead of us looking for a better place ourselves.

Hand in hand with this 'saying', we should also be in better space where our team-mates will be able to find us to create chances towards goal. Which is what i have been saying, run for your team-mates.

This is what i have to say so far and i hope you guys hear what i have been saying. I know i'm one of the lousiest in the team and the Fattest there. You guys might think that i'm bullshitting here and i know nothing! But hey, i'm sure this are all pointers which is essential for us to be better. So heed them! Also, if you have ways to improve the team i will also like to hear them! We are a team so we should share and discuss! =)

Motm: Lim ZhuLiang(19)

Zhuliang has been key today in his role as a centre back. He never once let his man get away from him and has also provide cover for his right back when there is a need. He marshalled the line with confidence and advised kahwoon on what need to be done and what should not be. Definitely a key figure to the side and i do hope his forms continue for the team!

Stronghold broken...

Team Goat 0 Team Cuzz 1

Team Goat didn't play well today as we were unable to string passes together and chances were a few for us. I do think that we are still not up to it yet, we will but right now we are not. More games together and i believe we will be better that who we were today.

For the first time in 5 years i guess we have the fewest chances in a match. A total of 3 i could only remember. Boonwee's volley, Joe's mis-kick and Lennard's opportunity. All 3 came after we were to pass our way through Team Cuzz's defense who kept at least 5 men at the back each time.

The goal came after intense pressure from Cuzz during the last 10 minutes. As we were unable to clear our lines and hold on to the ball, they repeatedly delivered balls into the box. Finally a one was able to find their man. A soft shot was deflected in by Kahwoon who was trying to clear the line. An unfortunate goal to concede.

But we shall look forward to the coming game. Looking at the fixtures, next week game might be our last away game at woodlands secondary. The remaining 3 will be in the east. (http://www.espzen.com/fixturesdiv.asp?leagueNo=95&divNo=2)

Motm: YangShan (21)

Coming in late in the 1st half he straightaway influenced the game. Stabilising the midfield by passing the ball away and holding on the ball to slow down the game. Although unable to create chances for the team he is able to defend well and constantly in our own half winning the ball for the team. Such display should be followed by the team! Move together and help each other out! =)
